Jordan North discusses 'rival' Greg James after Radio 1 exit (2024)

Jordan North has lifted the lid on hisshock exit from Radio 1 and move to Capital, following his Breakfast show debut on the station on Monday.

The DJ, 34, also hesitantly described 'mate' and former BBC colleague Greg James, 38, as his new 'rival' as their battling shows will now compete for listeners every weekday morning.

Jordan claimed he hadn't planned to leave the Radio 1, after appearing on their airwaves for a decade,until he was offered the plum role of replacing Roman Kemp, admitting: 'You don't turn down Capital Radio!'.

Going on to tellThe Sun: 'I know that sounds corny but it's a massive breakfast show. I told three people, because I had to keep it quiet, and they all said, "Go for it'".

'I have loads of good friends [at Radio 1]. When I rang [former co-host] Vick [Hope] she was great. They all texted me before the first show'.

Adding: 'Greg Jamessaid "Good luck", They pit us as rivals but really we're all mates.'

It was previously reported that Jordan - who was replaced by Jaime Laing- had been left blindsided by the news of his Radio 1 departure.

The Mirror claimed that the news he was leaving the show was a 'shock to him' as information about the departure 'was issued without his knowledge in chaotic scenes'.

The publication reports that he had unwittingly already presented his last episode of the show by the time his departure was announced.

Tensions had reportedly been high 'for months' about his departure after he let producers know he wanted to leave.

The BBC and Jordan's representatives have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

Jordan was visibly anxious as he made his first link on the show and said he struggled to sleep the night before due to nerves.

But it appears the nervous were completely unnecessary as viewers felt Jordan 'absolutely smashed' his first hosting stint.

Taking to Capital FM's Instagram comments, fans were in full praise and admiration of Jordan, hailing what a 'natural' he was.

Some comments read: 'Your heart must have been racing you looked very emotional possibly a tiny bit petrified! What a build up to deliver today on your first show! but you smashed it! Congratulations'.

'Awww I can feel the nerves and excitement congratulations on the new journey Jordan!'

'Great first show @jordannorth1! You we're brilliant as where @chrisstark & @sianwelby. The 3 of you bring something different and I'm actually excited for tomorrow morning x'

'Well you smashed that didn’t you. Absolutely brilliant. Well done team. You were incredible.'

Despite loving Jordan, some listeners were upset that Roman could no longer be apart of the team and stressed how missed he was.

Fans wrote: 'Feels so weird without Ro but Jordan was absolutely brilliant'; 'Feels a bit strange not hearing Roman's voice, but well done on a great first show.'

As well as his new Capital FM show, Jordan is kept busy hosting the podcast,Help I Sexted My Boss alongsideetiquette coach, William Hanson.

The pair deal with problems from listeners but revealed they sometimes get in over their heads.

Speaking on the Dish podcast with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, William shared: 'There is a really serious problem that someone keeps messaging me about that I have had to sort of reply with, I am not qualified to deal with this, here is the telephone number, you need to phone this person, or this comp- organisation.

'I've had to sort of really push back on that because I don't want to be accountable if anything awful happens.'

Jordan added: 'A lot of people tend to come up to me and go, "I'm more like you, and me other half's more like William."

'"He's from the Cotswolds so he's a bit posh, but I'm from Barnsley," and I'm like, oh, okay, so a lot of people tend to do that, don't they? Or go, "Oh, we're friends and I'm very much like William and she's like Jordan." I'm like, oh, cheers.'
