While your choice of costume is important, it’s often the treats that steal the spotlight for Halloween.

If you’re looking to conjure up some tasty delights without spending hours in the kitchen, consider embracing the sorcery of your air fryer.

From Airfried Mummied Brie to Zombie Monster Cupcakes, this Halloween, your air fryer will be brewing up recipes that’ll both spook and satisfy your cravings.

Airfried Mummied Brie

Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins
Serves 12

  • ½ sheet frozen puff pastry, partially thawed
  • 250g wheel of brie, cold from the fridge
  • Pitted dates, dried apricots, grapes, carrot sticks, blueberries, crackers, mandarins and parsley sprigs, to serve
  • 2 blueberries, for eyes

Method:

1 Slice pastry into 1cm thick strips. Wrap strips around the brie, overlapping, to represent a mummy’s bandage.

2 Place brie in the basket of the Philips XXL 5000 Series Airfryer. Set temperature to 200°C and time to 10 minutes, cooking until pastry is golden.

3 Meanwhile, arrange pitted dates, dried apricots, grapes, carrot sticks, blueberries, crackers and mandarins on a serving platter or board. Add a sprig of parsley to the centre of each mandarin as a stem.

4 Place hot brie on the platter, decorate with two blueberries as eyes, and serve immediately.

TIP: We used a spider-shaped bowl on top of our platter for an added touch of ‘spooky’, and to contain the gooey melted brie, once you cut it open.

Zombie Monster Cupcakes

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 16 minutes
Makes 9

  • 80g butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup caster sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¾ cup plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Green food colouring, to tint
  • ½ cup shredded coconut
  • 2/3 cup icing sugar mixture
  • 3 tsp water
  • White marshmallows, dark chocolate chips and edible eye candy, to decorate

Method:

1 Put butter, vanilla, egg, sugar and milk in a large bowl. Beat with a hand whisk until smooth.Sift in flour and baking powder and beat again until a smooth batter forms. Tint pastel green with a couple of drops of food colouring.

2 Put 9 silicone muffin moulds in the basket of the in the basket of the Philips XXL 5000 Series Airfryer and line with paper cases. Evenly spoon the cake batter into moulds.

3 Set temperature to 140°C and time to 16 mins and cook until cakes bounce back when gently pressed on top. Allow to cool completely.

4 Meanwhile, place coconut in a zip-lock bag and adding a drop or two of green food colouring to tint pale green. Use your hands to massage the colour into the coconut.

5 To make icing, combine icing sugar mixture, a drop of green food colouring, gradually adding water until a smooth thick, spreadable pastel green icing forms.

6 Remove cooled cakes from moulds. Spread the tops of each cupcake with icing, then dip into coconut.

7 Decorate the cupcakes with zombie monster eyes. To make the large eyes, cut marshmallows in half, and insert a upside down choc bit into the centre of each cut-side to create a pupil. Adhere these to the cupcakes with a small dot of icing.

For the smaller eyes, simply adhere the edible candy eyes to the cupcakes with a small dot of icing.

Airfryer Jack-o-lantern smashed pumpkin, sweet chilli chicken quesadillas

Preparation time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 24 mins
Makes 2

  • 1 ½ cups diced raw pumpkin (1cm dice)
  • 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to season
  • 4 flour tortillas (approx. 19cm diameter)
  • 1 cup shredded pizza blend cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cold barbecue chicken
  • 1 Tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • Extra virgin olive oil cooking spray

Method:

1 Toss pumpkin in olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Arrange in the basket of the Philips XXL 5000 Series Airfryer. Set temperature to 200°C and time to 10 minutes until tender and caramelised.

2 Stack 2 tortillas on top of each other. Use a small sharp knife to cut out a jack-o-lantern face from the middle. (It’s helpful to make paper cut-outs as a templates to cut around).

3 Place remaining two tortillas on a board. Divide pumpkin between the two, use a fork to smoosh them, spreading to cover the tortilla. Using half the cheese, sprinkle over the top.

4 Combine chicken and sweet chilli sauce. Place on top of the pumpkin and cheese. Sprinkle remaining cheese over the top, then sandwich closed with the cut-out tortillas. Use your hand to press down, adhering the tortillas together.

5 Carefully transfer one quesadilla into the Airfryer basket. Spray the top with cooking oil.

Set temperature to 200°C and time to 7 minutes. Set aside and repeat with remining quesadilla.

6 Slice into wedges. Serve.
